Domino's, Pizza Hut square off over specials

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Domino's and Pizza Hut are taking shots at each other over recent low-price pizza specials.
Domino's is currently offering the 444 Deal; three 10-inch, one topping pizzas for $4 each, while Pizza Hut is offering its 12-inch one-topping Pizza Mia for $5.00 each with the purchase of three or more one-topping pizzas for $6.99 each.
"The competition offers a value pizza with a catch — it's a smaller size," Pizza Hut chief marketing officer Brian Niccol said in a press release. "But we didn't want to do that. Instead, we're offering a larger medium pizza for $5 that is great tasting, too."
Domino's responded with a release of its own, claiming its 10-inch pizza has 25 percent more pepperoni than the Pizza Mia.
"We're surprised and delighted that our esteemed competitor has chosen to devote a press release to us," said Tim McIntyre, Domino's vice president of communications. "But we must ask — given that a corporation like Pizza Hut spent an entire press release dedicated to talking about size, it makes us wonder: do they have pizza — or pepperoni — envy?"
