LONDON — Domino's Pizza UK & IRL announced comparable-store sales gains of 9.7 percent for the 52 weeks ended Dec. 31, 2006. The group hurdled plus- 7.1 percent comps in 2005 to hit this year's mark.
According to a news release, comps for the six weeks ending Dec. 31 rose 13.1 percent. The franchise group credited the launch of the "MeltDown," a new spicy pizza, with driving the strong sales.
Domino's UK & IRL's e-commerce platform continues to be its fastest-growing channel. The group said average ticket totals collected through its Web site are typically 25 percent higher than those placed by phone. E-commerce sales grew by 43.8 percent in 2006.
The group opened 46 new stores last year and closed two, bringing the year-end unit count to 451.
The company also promoted Chris Moore from chief operating officer to deputy chief executive.
