• Fox's Pizza Den opens first California unit

PITTSBURGH — Fox's Pizza Den announced the opening of its first California unit in mid-September.

According to a news release, the store is located in Murrieta, just south of Los Angeles.

"As far as Fox's being a good fit for the Southern California area, I would say yes," said Brian Morgan, franchisee of the new unit. Morgan said he chose a Fox's franchise primarily for its affordability. "We were interested in something that was a cash-based business and that did not require a million dollars in liquid assets to get started."

The 249-unit chain is 100-percent franchised and has units in 28 states, mostly in the eastern U.S. The company has experienced tremendous growth over the past two years, including an 18 percent increase in units.

To service long-distance franchisees, Fox develops prime-vendor agreements in areas not supplied by its commissary. It also uses a state-of-the-art online communication system that includes e-newsletters and a franchisee forum.

Restaurant Business magazine recently named Fox's Pizza Den one of its top-50 growth chains in the country, and Fox's has consistently ranked among the top 25 pizza chains in the world according to Pizza Today. At the New York Pizza Show on Nov. 1, Fox's founder Jim Fox received the 2005 Pizza Industry Excellence award from PMQ magazine.
