LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Papa John's International, Inc. announced that domestic systemwide comparable sales for the five weeks ended June 27, 2004, increased 1.9 percent (composed of a 3.6 percent increase at company-owned units and a 1.3 percent increase at franchise units).
According to a news release, domestic systemwide comp-sales for the quarter ended June 27 decreased 1.9 percent (composed of a 0.3 percent increase at company-owned units and a 2.6 percent decrease at franchise units).
The company noted that ticket averages increased over prior-year results for both June and second quarter, reflecting the systemwide efforts to reduce the level of discounting or, in some cases, increase menu prices, particularly as related to the value-added "Pizza and Entertainment" promotional strategy.
Total systemwide international sales increased 6 percent for June and 2 percent for the quarter, on a constant U.S. dollar basis, over the comparable periods last year.
As of June 27 there were 2,771 Papa John's units (567 company-owned and 2,204 franchised) operating in 49 states and 16 international markets. Papa John's also franchises 124 Perfect Pizza units in the United Kingdom.
