SANTA CLARA, Calif.--Jacent Technologies Inc. announced the availability of a new telephone-based pizza order-taking and speech-recognition device customized for Pizza Hut franchisees.

According to a news release, Jacent's OrderStream system answers incoming customer calls, dispenses marketing messages and gives customers the option of placing orders via the voice-recognition computer or with a human phone attendant.

Larry Ulik, vice president of operations for Chesapeake, Va.-based Colonial Foods, one of the largest domestic Pizza Hut franchisees with more than 100 locations, said, "OrderStream has proven itself to be a valued CSR for our Pizza Hut locations. With OrderStream handling between 20 and 40 percent of our orders during peak hours, we're benefiting from increased sales capacity and labor savings."

OrderStream can handle up to six phone lines at once, taking orders and queuing calls for human customer service representatives. The result, according to the release, is reduced hold times and hang-ups and the seamless submission of customer information directly into a restaurant's POS system.

"Franchisees like Colonial Foods and others have been instrumental in testing and proving OrderStream's capabilities on the front lines at Pizza Hut locations across the country," said Trevor Stout, president and CEO of Jacent Technologies. "OrderStream took over 30,000 orders last month alone, and we expect this to grow exponentially as we become a vital part of Pizza Hut business operations nationwide."
