Profits rise at Domino's Pizza UK

LONDON—Record new store openings and a sharp increase in Internet food orders helped Domino's Pizza UK to post a 54 percent increase in pretax profits £6.5 million (U.S. $12.3 million) for 2003.

According to Ananova, the pizza delivery company said more than £5.8 million (U.S. $10.9 million) of its £142.3 million (U.S. $267 million) sales in the UK and Ireland in 2003 came via the Web or interactive TV—representing a 48 percent rise over 2002, and 4.5 percent of its total sales in the UK.

The franchisee, which has 318 stores, opened a record 50 new units in 2004 compared with 34 in the prior year.

Chief executive Stephen Hemsley said comparable-store sales in the first six weeks of 2004 up by 4.3 percent.
