• NEWS OF THE WEIRD: Pair attempts Pizza Hut robbery with cordless drill

INDEPENDENCE, Mo.--A father and son are in jail after attempting to rob a Pizza Hut with a cordless drill on Dec. 29.

According to KMBC-TV, George Stroble, 63, and his 32-year-old son, Donnie, face first-degree attempted robbery charges in the crime.

"It was not a well-thought-out plan, to be sure," said Independence Police Officer Bill Pross.

According to Pross, the two were drinking at a bar named Pappy's and headed home on foot. But when they wearied of walking, they decided to hold up the Pizza Hut for some money and a car.

"Dad stays at the front door on the outside of the building to make sure no customers come in and interfere with this brilliant plan, and sonny boy goes in with the drill stashed under his coat, walks up to the service counter and announces his robbery and demands a car and the money," Pross said.

Officers were summoned shortly after.

The younger Stroble is being held in the Jackson County Jail on $10,000 bond, but his father is already on his way back to prison. Police said he walked away from a Kansas City halfway house just before Christmas. He had been released from the penitentiary, where he was being held for drunken driving and drug possession convictions.
