WARNER ROBBINS, Ga.—The Association of Pizza Delivery Drivers (APDD) has announced it will begin helping delivery drivers form unions in localities across the U.S.
According to a news release, the group has retained St. Louis-based labor attorney, Mark Potashnick, PC, to represent the interests of the group, which was formed in March 2002. Potashnick represents labor unions across the U.S., and "has taken a particular interest in our efforts," the release said.
According to APDD President J.W. Callahan, drivers now are able "to start a local union office in your town, and have a parent Association to support you in every aspect of so doing." With the ability to unionize, Callahan said the group's 400-plus members could "become a force to reckon with to our employers, and we could begin to effect change on a national scale and to bargain with our employers on an equal basis without fear of retaliation."
Through unionization, Callahan believes drivers can obtain better pay raises, as well as improved vehicle compensation and insurance rates.
