DALLAS -- Pizza Hut reportedly will introduce reduced-fat toppings and cheese and offer prepackaged salads this fall.
According to a report in the Courier-Journal, while a single slice of Pizza Hut's current pepperoni pizza contains 13 grams of fat, a slice of the reduced-fat version will have 43 percent less fat.
The company would not tell the C-J where the test would take place, though Pizza Hut of Fort Wayne (PHFW), a 44-store franchisee in northern Indiana and Western Ohio has had success selling pies using a soy-based cheese made by Galaxy Nutritional Foods (see Pizza Hut franchisee using Galaxy soy cheese in 44 stores).
The Orlando, Fla.-based company manufactures Veggie Mozzarella, which PHFW has served on its Lite Bites menu for more than a year. It has half the fat of regular mozzarella, no saturated fat or cholesterol, is lactose free and contains soy protein.
