LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Papa John's International announced the opening of two stores in Seoul, South Korea, marking the company's expansion into its 12th international market and its first Asian venture.
According to a news release, franchise group PJI Korea Co., Ltd., opened two new units on July 21.
"We're very excited and pleased to welcome South Korea to our growing list of Papa John's restaurant locations around the world," said Bill Van Epps, managing director of international for Papa John's.
"We are committed to providing our customers a superior-quality pizza with outstanding service," stated Changwoo Soh, chairman of PJI Korea.
Papa John's enters South Korea at a time when Pizza Hut is slowing its expansion there. In a July 17 investor conference call, David Novak, chairman of Pizza Hut parent company, Yum! Brands, cited unspecified "macro issues" as reasons for slowing its growth in the country.
