WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President George W. Bush met with National Restaurant Association President and Chief Executive Officer Steven C. Anderson and representatives from eight other organizations at the White House on April 15 to discuss Bush's economic growth stimulus plan.
According to a news release, following the meeting, Bush and Anderson joined others at a Rose Garden event where the president urged Congress to send for his signature on the plan, which includes a $550 billion tax cut.
"We believe that the President's proposal ... would go a long way toward creating more jobs in entrepreneurial industries such as the restaurant industry," Anderson said. "Although restaurant sales have increased 5.3 percent from March 2002 to March 2003, the restaurant industry is still down 294,000 jobs from their July 2001 peak."
