Operators commemorate 9/11 with freebies

TACOMA, Wash., and PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. -- Two pizzeria operators commemorated the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the U.S. by giving away pizza and proceeds.
According to The News Tribune, Spuds Pizza Parlor in South Tacoma gave away free pizza to any customer who dropped by on 9/11. Firefighters and police officers who came were treated to anything on the menu for free.
"We had some surprised customers," laughed employee Joel Hradecky, who estimated the restaurant gave away $500 in free pizza in the first hour it was open.
At Fox's Pizza Den in Punxsutawney, customers who ordered a Big Daddy Pizza for $9.11 saw the store donate the entire sum to local fire companies.
The store also partnered with a roofing company, a local radio station and volunteer firefighters to deliver pizzas and check customers' smoke detectors. Houses without working detectors received one free.
