Tomato pies recalled after cheese in sauce causes allergic reaction

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- After a New Jersey child suffered a serious allergic reaction to cheese used in the sauce of a frozen tomato pie, the product's manufacturer has recalled 1,400 pies shipped to that state, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

According to The Associated Press, Don Berto's Tomato Pies, manufactured by Philadelphia-based Don Berto's Baking Co., were supposed to be milk-product free. But according to owner Albert Incollingo, Romano was added as a "spice" to the tomato sauce, yet not listed as an ingredient on the product's label.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers with milk allergies to return the recalled pies to stores for a refund.
