HARTFORD, Conn. -- Empire Pizza employee Victor Arce was shot and killed by a robber on March 23.
According to a report in the Hartford Courant, Arce, 37, had worked for the restaurant as a part-time delivery driver for two weeks.
Around 9:30 that Saturday night, an armed, masked gunman demanded the contents of the cash register from Empire's owner, Antonios K. Antonaras.
"[Victor] jumped the guy after he got the money out of the register," said Antonaras, who has owned Empire for 20 years. Arce then was shot by the robber, who drove away.
Antonaras called Arce the kind of employee who would show up an hour early for work and say "thank you" at the end of his shift.
"If he had said he wanted to quit, I would have tried to stop him," Antonaras said.
Antonaras said robberies have become commonplace in the pizzeria's neighborhood, and that several recent attempts had occurred at a nearby gas station.
No arrests have been made in the case.
