• 'Mothman' mania now includes namesake pizza

Moviegoers who have seen the new psychic thriller "The Mothman Prophecies" now can order The Mothman Pizza.

According to a report published by Reuters, Village Pizza in Point Pleasant, W.Va., the town where the movie takes place, makes the pizza to look like a moth, using cherry tomato eyes, green pepper feet and mushroom wings.

According to Susie Woodall, creator of the pie, "It's pretty good. You've got to like mushrooms and green peppers."

There's also a Mothman sandwich available at the town's Iron Gate Grille, built from turkey and ham on toasted rye with Thousand Island dressing, two cheeses, black olives and jalapeno peppers. Restaurant manager Linda Workman said the sandwich is "going to be on the menu from now on.'

"The Mothman Prophecies," starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney, opened on Jan. 25, and grossed $11.2 million in its first weekend.

The film itself tells the story of a newspaper reporter, who is drawn to Point Pleasant, a dying town on the Ohio River, where he encounters a fearsome creature with moth-like wings. Reported sightings of the Mothman began in 1966 by people who believed they saw everything from a "giant butterfly" to a "brown human being" flying from the trees. Legend holds that the sightings warned of an impending disaster, which occurred a year later when the town's Silver Bridge collapsed, killing 46 people.

Hoping it will attract a cult following similar to the one that grew out of the 1999 "The Blair Witch Project," Sony Screen Gems is promoting the Mothman as fact by inviting reports of sightings on the film's Web site. The 5,000 people of Point Pleasant also are hoping the movie will spur tourism.

Rush Finley, the owner of the Lowe Motor Inn, welcomes anyone to visit, even if they're a little odd.

"Hell, it doesn't bother me," Finley said. "We're redneck enough to handle any kind of people that come. We don't consider people kooky. We consider people people."
