AUSTIN, Texas -- Schlotzsky's Inc. is sponsoring a pizza-centered exhibit at the Austin Children's Museum from Feb. 2 through May 4.
The hands-on, interactive exhibit will teach kids about shapes, fractions, division, culinary science and role-playing.
"We're delighted to support the Austin Children's Museum in providing this marvelous, imaginative exhibit for the families of Central Texas to discover the joy of learning through constructive play," said John C. Wooley, president and CEO of the Austin-based company. Schlotzsky's also will air local television ads promoting the exhibit, called "Pizza -- Any Way You Slice It!" Museum officials expect nearly 50,000 children and families to visit the exhibit.
Schlotzsky's Inc., founded in Austin in 1971, is a franchisor of quick-service restaurants selling sandwiches, sourdough crust pizzas, salads and soups. The chain includes about 700 stores.
Though the company does not bill itself as a pizza place, about 20 percent of its sales come from personal-size pizzas. Average sales at stores -- which include a blend of in-line and freestanding facilities -- is about $550,000.
Last fall, Schlotzsky's made a nationwide broadcast media push to boost customer awareness of its pizza. The company has not said whether the campaign was a success.
