Hughes Network Systems LLC, a global leader in broadband satellite networks and services, has announced the the development of a key Apple iPhone application for its award-winning Hughes Learning Management Portal service.
The Hughes Learning Management Portal provides organizations with a turnkey learning management system (LMS) that is a private-branded, secure site for organizing, managing and distributing training and presentation content. The LMS allows organizations to easily and cost-effectively track progress, administer assessment exams, and produce custom reports.
The new mobile capability of the Hughes Learning Management Portal extends the reach of LMS users by enabling direct access from any iPhone or iPod Touch device. It provides a rich media experience for the user and supports Microsoft Office and PDF documents, iPhone-ready H.264 video and images. Assessment exams can be taken right from the iPhone or iPod Touch, and all progress reporting is stored within the LMS portal.
"By adding the power of mobility to the Hughes Learning Management Portal, customers now will have access to distance learning and presentation content anytime and anywhere on their iPhones," said Mike Tippets, vice president, Hughes Solutions Group, in a news release. "This application is a key next step in the evolution of our solutions that enhance learning systems and communications capabilities for our customers."

Hughes also will unveil its new digital signage iPhone application during the Digital Signage Expo, taking place Feb. 23-25 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Attendees at the show will be able to demo the application at the Hughes booth, No. 1505. The app allows administrators to update their Hughes digital signage network display directly from their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
Hughes MediaSignage is a digital signage offering that provides a method of delivering dynamic, content-rich audio and video aimed at replacing legacy print media (such as printed signs and billboards) with modern, dynamic digital display panels. MediaSignage can be delivered to multiple sites within a building or complex, or it can be delivered to unlimited sites around the globe, with the ability to create unique content tailored for each site via custom channels, programs, and schedules.
