Canadian pizza company Pizza Pizza Ltd., through its Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 brands, helped raise $200,000 in 2009 to assist Children's Miracle Network in providing care, education programs, equipment and research devoted to children's health.
Every year, children's hospitals in Canada treat more than 2.6 million children.
The pizza purveyors joined The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto to present Children's Miracle Network with a check for the collected funds.
"While Canadians enjoy a universal health care system, not everything is fully funded," said John Hartman, chief international officer for Children's Miracle Network. "Thanks to the support from partners like Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73, our organization is able to provide children's hospitals with additional funding to ensure that these provincial hospitals continue to thrive across Canada."
Money was collected through donation boxes and at local customer appreciation events. In April and October, Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 held week-long fundraisers where a portion of the proceeds from select discounted menu items were donated to Children's Miracle Network.
Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 have already begun collecting donations for 2010. Donations can be made year-round at drop boxes located at Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 outlets across Canada. Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 will be hosting its next week-long Slices for Smiles fundraising push in April.
