Papa John's has halted its $10 pizza deals in parts of the country, according to The Courier-Journal.com. CMO Andrew Varga said the peak of the deal was with a record 900,000 pizzas sold on Super Bowl Sunday.
The news comes after the pizza company released earnings statements with explanations about the squeeze such constant promotions exert on margins. Conversely, Pizza Hut just announced a more permanent schedule of lower prices for pizzas late last week.

Papa John’s officials acknowledge its extended, low ball pricing helped the business.
“Over the last 6 months, the $10 Any Large Pizza has brought in an enormous amount of new consumers,” Varga said of Pizza Hut and Domino’s. “We are holding our own with our two largest competitors fighting very hard on price.”
The Louisville-based chain still offers discounts on multiple pizza purchases, like a current $20 deal that serves up 2 large pizzas with three toppings each.
Papa John’s is also offering a $10 large, with up to 3 toppings, in many markets across the country, company spokesman Chris Sternberg said.
