In cooperation with the Hillandale Farms' Aug. 20 voluntary recall of eggs due to possible Salmonella Enteriditis contamination, Lucerne Foods is expanding the recall of 5 Dozen Count packages of Lucerne Grade AA Large Eggs sold at 19 Safeway stores in California.

The recalled packages display “Sell By” dates of June 17, 2010 through August 27, 2010 (06-17-10 through 08-27-10), Julian Dates 139 to 210 and a Plant Code P1292. (Example: 06 17 10 139 P1292). This code is stamped on the plastic wrapper surrounding the package.

Salmonella can cause foodborne illness (salmonellosis) through cross-contamination. Consumers are reminded to wash their hands before and after handling eggs. For more information, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website at www.cdc.gov.
