Big Pizza has gotten another pie to the face for allegedly slinging nutritionally poor product. News and blog site The Daily Beast has revealed its ranking of the unhealthiest pizza in America. It's really simply a listing of the largest pizzerias in the country: Editors looked at what it deemed the top 30 pizza chains that provide nutritional information for their product and ranked the worst offenders according the criteria of calories, sodium, saturated fat and carbohydrates. The methodology of this list stated that no one chain would be listed more than three times.
Domino’s snagged the undesirable No. 1 spot with its ExtravaganZZa Feast Brooklyn Crust Extra Large Slice, with 590 calories, 13.5 grams saturated fat, 1,710 milligrams of sodium, and 51 carbohydrates. Other chains appearing on the list included Papa Gino’s, Uno, Hungry Howie’s, Godfather’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, Marco’s, Pizza Factory, Jet’s, Figaro’s Pizza, Mountain Mike’s, Vocelli Pizza and Peter Piper Pizza.
Further assaults on the industry are expected when menu labeling laws requiring chains of 20-plus to include nutritional info on their in-store menus are enacted. The legislation was set to be enforceable in March 2011, but the FDA has said it will grant more time for compliance.
