Papa Murphy’s International has been ranked No. 5 on Forbes magazine’s list of top 20 brand-name U.S. franchises.
The take ‘n’ bake pizza chain closed out 2010 with more than 600 franchise owners and 1,250 stores in 37 states and Canada.
The list was derived from a partnership between Forbes and Robert Bond, publisher of Bond’s Franchising Guides and CEO of the World Franchising Network. The 100 most recognized franchise operators were researched and the 20 pulled for the list delivered “the best bang for a franchisee’s investment buck.”
The research considered four variables, including:
- Estimated minimum initial investment;
- Total locations;
- Survival rates; and
- The number of training hours offered to new franchisees measured against the start-up cost.
Forbes tallied each franchisor’s performance on each variable and summed the figures to create the rank-ordered list. A complete list of results can be found online.

Additionally, Papa Murphys has launched a new S’mores Dessert Pizza just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The treat is made with real Hershey’s Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, mini marshmallows and a crisp topping.
“Like some of our most popular pizzas, the S'mores Dessert Pizza evolved from feedback from our franchise owners and guests," said Carron Harris, VP of product development. "We tested it in several markets and the customer response was phenomenal. It's a great addition to our dessert options."
