Boston Pizza International Inc. opened the doors of its 109th location in Ontario this week. The new restaurant is located in Downtown Toronto and marks the first urban concept location for the chain. The restaurant has 350 seats, more than 9,400 square feet of space and an outdoor patio.
Boston Pizza's president and COO Mark Pacinda said the unit was designed specifically to tap into the local sports scene and the energy of downtown.
"Guests will know they are at a Boston Pizza, but at the same time they'll feel like they're in a downtown, urban restaurant and bar," he said.
Boston Pizza's new urban design concept includes a bar on each of two floors, more than 80 flatscreen TVs, and a customized, state-of-the-art sound and lighting system that will feature motifs from Toronto sports teams on different occasions. A first for a Canadian restaurant, the entire space will change color depending on the sporting event taking place and the teams playing.
"We believe a similar concept can work in a number of major cities across the country. We will design future urban or downtown stores to reflect the needs and flavor of the local community," Pacinda said.
The newest Boston Pizza is owned by Wayne Steadman, Aubrey Steadman and owner/operators Rob and Jan Phillips, who operate a number of other Boston Pizza locations in Ontario.
As part of the restaurant's grand opening celebrations, Boston Pizza employees donated all server tips from its dress rehearsals to Road Hockey To Conquer Cancer, benefiting The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.
