Pleasure Pizza, a Santa Cruz, Calif., restaurant since 1987, is marking the opening of a second unit June 11.
A grand opening for the new Pleasure Pizza East Side Eatery will feature two-for-one pints of beer all day, and will coincide with local events.
The menu focuses on California cuisine, as well as Pleasure Pizza signatures, with an emphasis on fresh, organic and locally-grown ingredients. Breakfast dishes are served daily until noon.
The new location features large-screen TVs, a variety of locally crafted beers and wine, and a dog-friendly outdoor patio.
"We're preserving the classic, unparalleled Pleasure Pizza pies that customers have craved for so many years, while celebrating the spirit, diversity and history of our unique neighborhood with exciting tastes from around the world ... So far, the feedback has been tremendous – we couldn't be happier," said Pleasure Pizza owner Derek Rupp, who took over the business from founder Steve Irving last year.
Rupp is a longtime Santa Cruz and Pleasure Point resident and former executive chef at Google. He said about 70 percent of Pleasure Pizza's produce is organic and "almost everything" is produced locally.
"We want to show that great pizza doesn't have to be unhealthy. It can be good for you, good for the local economy, good for the environment and taste fantastic," he said.
