Think you've got a lot of Facebook fans? Can you beat 3 million? Domino's recently reached that benchmark and is striving for even more with "fun" promotions like its pizza proverb challenge.

More than 8,000 fans entered the contest that asked Facebook fans to create a pizza slogan out of an old proverb. Will Spiers of Brookhaven, Atlanta, was one of eight winners with his saying, "The darkest hour is before the doorbell rings."

"It's a way that we are trying to utilize social media," said Domino's Spokesman Chris Brandon Domino's Facebook page. "We're trying to be smart about it. Just like any social media platform, it's constantly evolving and changing, and we are trying to figure out how to interact with fans and consumers -- both from the standpoint of making sure they're aware of what we are doing -- but also to have fun.

For their creative pizza prowess, the proverb winners received $50-gift cards, and their slogans appear on pizza boxes across the nation. Click here to read the other winning proverbs.
