Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers has grown its presence in North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Washington, D.C., within the past few months.
Now the company is set to expand in Virginia, opening its latest unit in Bristol, Va., Dec. 12. The opening marks the second Mellow location in the state, and the second location owned and operated by Ryan Mathesius and Nate Singleton.
"Exit 7 in Bristol, marks one of the busiest restaurant attractions on I-81 in the state. We feel that the addition of a Mellow Mushroom will be an amazing and unique experience for customers that frequent this area," Mathesius said.
The new unit will feature original artwork inspired by Bristol's country roots, including Hank Williams and the Carter family. The work was created by artist Carl Janes.
A large mobile chandelier fills the center of the timber-framed building made from truck parts and other honky-tonk regalia. The "Lucky" bar is filled with horseshoes and giant lucky pennies.
The Mellow Mushroom menu features a variety of pizzas, hoagies, salads, calzones and appetizers. The new unit will include the Mellow Beer Club with 70 brews available.
This location seats around 200 people, including an open bar area, a seasonal patio and a large dining area. Events will be held throughout the week including trivia, live music, karaoke and beer tastings.
