A Papa John's employee based in New York City was fired over the weekend after a customer tweeted a photo of her receipt that identified her as "lady chinky eyes."
According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, customer Minhee Cho shared a photo of the receipt from Friday's order, and included a message to the company directly that said: "Hey @PapaJohns just FYI my name isn't 'lady chinky eyes.'"
According to the brand's Facebook page, the employee was terminated.
Papa John's released a statement on its Facebook page Saturday evening that read:
"We were extremely concerned to learn of the receipt issue in New York. This act goes against our company values, and we've confirmed with the franchisee that this matter was addressed immediately and that the employee is being terminated. We are truly sorry for this customer's experience."
The statement has yielded about 1,000 "likes" and nearly 800 comments. One fan applauded the company for apologizing before the news story went viral.
A spokesperson for Papa John's told the Courier-Journal that the company is trying to reach out directly to the customer.
