London-based The Stone Bake Oven Company has introduced a wood-fired pizza oven for consumers. Whether or not the piece of equipment will affect pizzerias' bottom line is yet to be seen, but the idea behind the launch was to make families' lives cheaper and more convenient by not having to dine out, according to the company.
The new wood-fired pizza oven is capable of cooking authentic Neapolitan pizza in less than 90 seconds, and can be used to cook more than pizza, including meat roasts, artisan breads, grilled fish and desserts.
"A wood fired oven is a great investment for the home," said Tom Gozney, The Stone Bake Oven Company founder, "Since experimenting with my wood burning oven, cooking at home has got better and better."
According to the company, the wood-fired ovens are more efficient than standard cookers, and can handle multiple meals in one firing. It is also more energy-efficient, as it runs on burning wood.
The Primo Oven retails at GBP 599 (about $950 U.S.).
