Papa John's has unveiled a Five Sausage Pizza, featuring the chain's new Chorizo sausage topping, as well as real pork sausage, mild and spicy sausage and Mozzarrella cheese.
The limited-time offer is available for $10.
The company also is currently offering all large pizzas, including specialties, for $11 for a limited time.
With these discounts, Papa John's seems to be taking a page from its competitors. During the company's earnings call last week, founder/CEO John Schnatter said the company was somewhat affected domestically because Pizza Hut and Domino's use their larger scale to feature deeper discounts.
"Our competitors are so big and they spend so much money [on discounts] that from time to time they do things that make the category not as consistent as we'd like," Schnatter said.
The chain's North American president Tony Thompson added that the segment's current pricing environment is "probably the toughest thing that's out there," even more than rising food costs.
Despite the heated competition, Papa John's International's profit jumped 14 percent in the fourth quarter, and same-store sales were up more than 5 percent.
