Tyson Prepared Foods Inc. has recalled more than 12,000 pounds of pizza toppings due to "misbranding" and an undeclared allergen.
According to the Food Safety and Inspection Service, the packaging identifies the products as beef, however they actually contain pork. The pork products contain soy, a potential allergen, which is not identified on the label.
Subject to recall are the 10-pound cartons labeled as "Cooked Pizza Topping" containing two, 5-pound packages labeled as "Arrezzio-cooked Beef Pizza Topping Manzo Cotto Per Pizza."
The products also bear the establishment number "EST. 623" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the label. They were produced Jan. 12, 2012, and were sold to foodservice institutions nationwide via a distributor.
The product is intended for use in restaurants or institutional food operations; it is not sold in retail grocery stores.
The problem was reported by a product purchaser.
There have been no reports of adverse reactions from consumption.
