Pizza Hut has committed once again to offering a free pizza if a No. 16 seed upsets a No. 1 seed in the NCAA basketball tournament.
Additionally, the Pizza Hut 10 Seed Bandwagon will support the No. 10 seeded schools in honor of the new $10 Dinner Box by hosting parties for their fans.
"The founders of Pizza Hut were underdogs themselves, starting a global brand from the ground up," said Kurt Kane, chief marketing officer at Pizza Hut. "We are again cheering for the underdogs in this year's tournament rooting for the ultimate upset and with the launch of our new $10 Dinner Box we are backing the No. 10 seeds to go all the way."
If the ultimate upset takes place – a No. 16 seed dethroning a No. 1 seed – Pizza Hut will embark on a cross-country trip in the brand's mobile kitchen. The tour will travel to each of the 48 contiguous states in the United States to hand out free slices of pizza at designated locations. More information about the tour will be unveiled if the upset occurs.
Since 1985, 108 men's college basketball teams earning No. 16 seeds have battled No. 1 seeds. All 108 teams have returned home in defeat.
Pizza Hut is also adopting the four No. 10 seeds and feeding their fans in honor of the $10 Dinner Box, which includes a medium one-topping rectangular pan pizza, five breadsticks with marinara sauce and 10 cinnamon sticks with an icing cup.
As soon as the tournament teams are declared, the Pizza Hut 10 Seed Bandwagon will descend on each school's campus. $10 Dinner Box pre-game parties will also be hosted in the cities where the teams are playing.
To celebrate the March Madness promotion, chefs at the Pizza Hut innovation kitchen have built the Blazin' Basketball Pizza. It's made with buffalo wing hot sauce and other ingredients. The pizza is just a test at this time and not yet available in Pizza Hut restaurants.
