The International Pizza Expo held last week in Las Vegas included a Best Traditional Pizza competition with honors this year going to Pizza My Heart.

Pizza My Heart, founded in 1981, is based in the Santa Cruz, Calif., area and includes about 20 units. It is the first American pizza to win the Traditional prize since the contest started in 2008.

According to the Mercury News, Pizza My Heart has a reputation for using unusual toppings such as apples and Gorgonzola cheese.

The competition required chefs to use only two toppings from a list of nine traditional toppings. Pizza My Heart's winning creation featured pepperoni and mushrooms.
