Papa Murphy's International has announced the appointment of its Canada franchise rights to Papa M Pizza Canada Inc. The master franchisee is accelerating Papa Murphy's Canadian footprint with a push to open 80 stores within the next 10 years.
Papa Murphy's opened its first take 'n' bake pizza store in Surrey, British Columbia, in 2006 and has since opened 17 others in BC and Alberta. Combined with the U.S. store count, the chain operates more than 1,300 locations in North America.
"Papa M Pizza Canada has been a franchise entity for over four years and has proven that it has what it takes to drive expansion in Canada. We're encouraged by the team's leadership and its ability to raise awareness of the take and bake concept with the Canadian audience," said Ken Calwell, Papa Murphy's CEO.
Chuck van der Lee, owner of Papa M Pizza Canada, said the plan will be to expand the brand from west to east, initially focusing on existing markets and then adding stores throughout Western Canada.
Indianapolis also a target market
Papa Murphy's also announced this week that it plans to add more than 30 locations in the Indianapolis market. According to the Indianapolis Star, the company currently operates 29 units in the area.
Plans call for four stores to open by the end of 2012 and 29 more throughout the next five years.
