MOD Pizza has announced that it will open its sixth Seattle-area location at the newly renovated Seattle Center Armory/Center House on June 16.

"As a Seattle based company, we are thrilled to be a part of the revitalization of the iconic Seattle Center. We all remember spending time there as kids, and look forward to making it a great destination for the next generation. The new focus on creating an interesting, more inspiring, culinary experience for visitors to the Center was a strong draw for us," said co-founder Ally Svenson.

After serving as the National Guard Armory in 1939, the Seattle Center Armory was turned into the show stopping Food Circus during the 1962 World's Fair. As the Center House, it served as a community gathering place housing a variety of quick-serve dining establishments, the Children's Museum and The Center School. A $4 million renovation this year has revitalized the iconic structure, opening up walls of windows and creating a more inviting atmosphere for visitors.

MOD Pizza's 1,500-square-foot space along the south wall of the newly renovated building (next to Starbucks) will feature MOD's signature 800-degree display oven, seating for 50 and a 350-square-foot, south-facing outdoor patio that opens to the new Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibit and views of the Space Needle.

Along with its thin crust, artisan-style pizzas, MOD will serve draft beer and wine.

MOD Pizza first opened in the fall of 2008. The MOD Pizza concept was conceived by northwest natives and husband and wife team Ally and Scott Svenson who sold their coffee business in the UK, Seattle Coffee Company, to Starbucks in the early 1990s.

Co-founder of Top Pot Doughnuts, Michael Klebeck, also played an instrumental role in developing the MOD brand in its early stages. In addition, a group of advisors share the founders' vision for growth and include: Lindsey Schwartz (President and CEO, Schwartz Brothers Restaurants), Adam Brotman (VP Digital Ventures, Starbucks), Jim Alling (COO T-Mobile, formerly president of U.S and International Operations, Starbucks) and Paul Twohig (COO Dunkin' Donuts, formerly Sr. VP Retail Operations, Starbucks and COO of Panera Bread).

"We have spent the last couple of years working with our five existing locations and growing customer base to better understand the potential of the MOD brand. We've been focused on evolving and retaining our operation. With the Seattle Center opening, and a plan for two additional locations to open prior to next fall, we are extremely excited to be ramping up the expansion of MOD Pizza," said Scott Svenson.
