Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Cottage Inn has scaled back its plans to deliver pizzas to campers at the Michigan International Speedway during NASCAR race weekends.
According to AnnArbor.com, the service won't be available until June, and delivery will only be available from 5 p.m. until midnight during race weekends.
The company initially announced its partnership with MIS in April, which included plans to deliver "through the night" to the nearly 9,000 campsites on the property, about a half hour south of Ann Arbor. Cottage Inn marketing director Bob Miller admitted those plans were over-ambitious, and cited volume and staffing issues in cutting back.
More than 40 employees will be staffed during NASCAR's first race weekend, June 15-17, as well as volunteers from the University of Michigan's men's club rugby team.
Also, instead of delivering to individual campsites, Cottage Inn will host eight drop-off locations where campers can pick up their pizzas. The plan is to try out the drop zones, "at least for the first race," Miller said, adding that the company isn't opposed to fulfilling its original idea of around-the-clock delivery.
