GrubHub, an online ordering service, examined orders in the past year to identify Americans' favorite foods. Pizza topped the list, and options such as Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken ranked near the top, alongside traditional favorites such as pepperoni and cheese.
To identify the most popular American food, GrubHub analysts sorted through more than 2.5 million orders from restaurants serving American cuisine. According to GrubHub diners, the most popular pizzas, in order, are:
- Cheese
- Pepperoni
- Sausage
- Hawaiian
- Buffalo Chicken
"While it may seem bizarre that Hawaiian pizza is so popular, it isn't that surprising given how much the food industry has changed in the past few years," said Matt Maloney, GrubHub co-founder and CEO. "Even the way people order food has changed. Instead of reading an order over the phone to a restaurant, diners can now tap a few buttons on GrubHub's mobile app and order enough to feed their entire 4th of July party."
