More pizza chains join Colorado wildfire relief

Last week, PizzaMarketplace.com highlighted some Colorado-based restaurant chains that were working toward wildfire relief in their home state.

Since then, several more brands have reported additional efforts.

The owners of Toppings Pizza Works, a pizzeria and bakery located in lower Downtown Denver, have teamed up with the American Red Cross to help those in need by donating 5 percent of all sales to disaster relief.

All through the month of July, Toppings will automatically donate 5 percent of each sale to the American Red Cross to be used for helping families recover from these recent wildfires. The fundraising effort began July 5 and runs through July 31.

"We hope to raise as much as possible in order to help out those in need that have had their whole lives changed in the matter of a few hours," said Greg Saia, president of Esa Ventures Inc., parent company of Toppings Pizza Works. "These funds may be used by the American Red Cross to provide food, water, clothing and other necessities to help people and families that have lost everything."

Toppers' initial goal is to raise $5,000 by the end of July.

"It is real easy to help these people out, just come by and have lunch or dinner, your purchase is the same price it would have been anyway, but now your also helping out those in need," Saia said. "We hope we double our initial goal, but the important thing to remember is every little bit helps."

Also, Old Chicago's Northern Colorado restaurants (Old Chicago Harmony and Old Chicago Old Town) have fed approximately 600 volunteers throughout the past four weeks and raised more than $10,000 through the sales of Red Cross Icons, a medium pizza deal and auction.

High Country Beverage (a Coors distributor) matched donations up to $1,000, as did the Craftworks Foundation, which is operated by Old Chicago's parent company, Craftworks.

The total amount donated through Old Chicago to the Red Cross is $13,000.

Old Chicago has 25 locations throughout Colorado, including four restaurants in Colorado Springs and four in the Northern Colorado market.
