Taste of Life, a new pizzeria located in West Hartford, Conn., features vegetarian and kosher pizzas and is run out of a synagogue two nights a week by caterer Yosi Awad.
According to a reader submission in the Hartford-Courant, the operation features two signature pizzas – Mediterranean and Veggie Lover's.
However, Taste of Life is better known for employing young people with developmental disabilities such as autism.
Taste of Life was created when Ellie and Michael Routburg wanted a place where their autistic son could learn business skills. They worked with Awad, who "recognized the need to help young adults with special needs and immediately agreed to help us with the pizza project," according to the story.
Awad's catering business specializes in Middle Eastern and Israeli cuisine. He markets a line of food through Whole Foods stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
