All four of the KFC and Pizza Hut units in Nepal have been closed because their branch managers have received death threats from employees.
According to the Associated Press, Devyani International, a Yum! Brands' operator in Nepal and India, announced the closure of its businesses in Nepal's capital Kathmandu because of the threats. Some employees have also physically attacked senior managers.
"To maintain the safety of our restaurants and the staff, we have shut down our services for an indefinite period," read a statement from the company.
KFC and Pizza Hut are the only international quick-service brands in Nepal. They made their debut in the country three years ago and have had much success there.
The country struggled with a 10-year civil war through 2006, however, and rebels continue to target foreign brands with violence.
