Figaro's Italian Pizza's H.E.L.P., the Charity, announced that in its first 24 months of existence, it has issued 185 awards of grants totaling $31,091.92.
Through its grant program, H.E.L.P. provides grants to U.S. based non-profit tax-exempt schools and other entities to support educational programs. H.E.L.P. was created by the shareholders and franchisees of Figaro's Italian Pizza to make a positive impact on communities.
"Helping Education with Love and Pizza" – or H.E.L.P. – was launched in late 2010 during the recession to help schools facing drastic cuts. The charity has since applied for and obtained 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service.
The funds awarded to date have facilitated the purchasing of:
- In Oregon: Online math program materials, track equipment, bike storage shelters, interactive notebooks for language arts and science, a life skills reward system, gardening equipment for Girl Scout service projects, science video library, physical education equipment, MP3 players, school books, football helmets reconditioned for safety, musical instrument repairs and playground stabilization materials;
- In Montana: Binders;
- In Ohio: Computer earphones;
- In California: Supplies;
- In Washington: Safety equipment; and
- In Wisconsin: Scholarships for those overcoming difficulties.
