A total of 12 Marco's Pizza locations in Colorado will act as collection sites on Dec. 12 for the inaugural "No Socks To Work Day," a campaign to collect socks for the homeless.
Ten of those locations are co-owned by Nick Costanzo, who has pledged to offer a two-for-one discount on pizza slices on that day to any customer who brings in a pair of new socks for donation.
Denver's homeless population has doubled in the past year, a trend that has inspired the campaign. No Socks to Work Day asks workers to forego their socks for the day and donate a new pair of socks in their place. The drive will be in full effect through Dec. 31, with a goal of collecting 50,000 pairs of socks.
The act of going without socks is both symbolic and instructive as a reminder of the reality of going without socks during the winter months. There are several sock donation sites throughout the greater Denver metro area, including the 10 Marco's locations, and an additional two Marco's locations in Colorado Springs.
