New research from mobile and online ordering provider Seamless breaks down what consumers are craving late at night, with pizza coming in on top. The company researched delivery and takeout orders from more than 12,000 restaurants in the U.S. and United Kingdom between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The top five late night ordering cities and their residents' nocturnal cravings include:
- Chicago: Windy City residents place 14 percent of their orders during late night hours, with pizza being the cuisine of choice followed by Chinese food.
- New York and San Francisco: Late night eaters in these markets are tied for second place, with pizza as the most popular order in both cities. Diner food is New Yorkers' second pick, while San Franciscans turn to Thai.
- Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles: Tied at 10 percent of all orders taking place late at night are Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. Residents in the City of Angels most choose Thai food the most late at night, followed by Chines, making them the most adventurous eaters. Those in D.C. prefer pizza, then Chinese, for their nocturnal cravings.
