The class action lawsuit filed against Papa John's last year over illegal spam text messages has been settled for $16.5 million.
The lawsuit was brought on behalf of Papa John's customers across the U.S. who were sent unwanted text messages that advertised for Papa John's pizza. It was filed under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
According to Lawyers.com, if the settlement is approved, each class member will receive $50 and a free pizza.
The plaintiffs alleged that they received numerous unwanted text messages advertising pizza specials without opting in to a text message program. Some of the texts came in the middle of the night.
The settlement includes no admission of liability by Papa John's.
