Block cheese prices on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange averaged just under $1.39 per pound for the trading week ended Aug. 28, up slightly from last week. Block cheese closed at $1.39 per pound Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before retreating to just above $1.38 per pound on Thursday and just under $1.37 per pound on Friday. and $1.39 per pound Thursday and Friday. Prices are off 32 cents, or 19 percent, compared with this time last year, when block cheese averaged $1.71 per pound. Wheat Wheat for September delivery closed at just under $5.22 per bushel Friday on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, off 10 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $5.32. Prices had closed at $5.38 per bushel Monday, just above $5.36 Tuesday, just above $5.43 per bushel Wednesday and just under $5.39 per bushel Thursday. Gasoline and diesel fuel The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.61 per gallon Aug. 31, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, off two cents from the previous week. Prices are up 3 percent from an average of $2.53 per gallon a month ago and off 29 percent from an average of $3.69 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded averaged $2.77 per gallon while premium unleaded stood at $2.87 per gallon. The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stood at $2.70 per gallon Aug. 31, up a penny from last week. Diesel prices are off 37 percent from an average of $4.27 per gallon this time last year. Natural gas Natural gas spot prices fell at all market locations this report week, with decreases ranging between 10 cents and 39 cents per million Btu, according to the Energy Information Administration. Prices at the Henry Hub declined by 26 cents per MMBtu, or about 9 percent, to $2.76 per MMBtu. Pizza company stocks Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed at $34.92 on Aug. 28, off $1.10 compared with the previous week's close of $36.02. YUM traded at a 52-week high of $40.25 in September 2008, and a 52-week low of $21.50 in November 2008. Domino's closed at $8.29, up 47 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $7.82. Over the past 52 weeks, DPZ has traded as high as $14.20 in August 2008 and as low as $2.61 in November 2008. Papa John's stock closed at $23.76, off 76 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $24.52. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $30.68 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.78 in November 2008. Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed at $27.08, off 14 cents compared with the previous week's close of $27.22. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $39.59 in August 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.96 in November 2008. California Pizza Kitchen closed at $14.51 on Aug. 28, up 10 cents compared with the previous week's close of $14.41. CPKI has traded as high as $17.44 in mid-April and as low as $5.24 in November 2008. Pizza Inn closed at $1.70 on Aug. 28, off 10 cents compared with the previous week's close of $1.80. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.72 in October 2008 and a 52-week low of 98 cents in April 2009.
