NPC International, the world's largest Pizza Hut franchisee, said the wages it pays delivery drivers meets or exceeds federal and state standards, according to a report in the Kansas City Star.
 
The company made the assertion in its response to a lawsuit filed in federal court in Kansas City, Kan.
 
Jeffrey Wass, a delivery driver with NPC, filed the suit earlier this year. In the suit, he alleged that drivers are inadequately compensated for using their own vehicles to make deliveries.
 
If certified as a class action, the suit could include as many as 20,000 drivers.
 
NPC has requested the suit be dismissed.
