LOS ANGELES -- Comparable store sales at California Pizza Kitchen restaurants were off 6.5 percent for the second quarter ended June 29, according to a preliminary earnings release, compared with a 1.5 percent increase for the 2008 second quarter.
Revenues for the quarter decreased 3.2 percent to $170.9 million, compared with revenues of $176.6 million for last year's second quarter.
California Pizza Kitchen is projecting earnings of 24 cents to 25 cents a share, up from earlier projections of 18 cents to 20 cents per share.
During the second quarter, the company added three full-service restaurants, located in Norcross, Ga., and Sacramento and Valencia, Calif. In addition, one of the company's franchise partners opened a full-service restaurant in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The company plans to release its second quarter earnings on Aug. 6 at approximately 4 p.m. Eastern time with a conference call to follow on the same day. A webcast of the conference call will be available on the California Pizza Kitchen Web site.
