CHICAGO -- Block cheese prices continued to fall on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange last week, with prices averaging just above $1.14 per pound for the trading week ended May 8, off 2 cents from the previous week.
Block cheese prices closed at $1.15 per pound Monday and Tuesday, just above $1.14 per pound Wednesday and just under $1.14 per pound Thursday and Friday.
Prices are off 83 cents, or 42 percent, compared with this time last year, when block cheese averaged $1.97 per pound. Wheat Wheat prices for May delivery were fairly steady last week, closing at just under $6.93 per bushel Friday on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, off 2 cents from $6.95 per bushel the last day of the previous trading week. Prices had closed at just above $6.89 per bushel Monday, $6.95 per bushel Tuesday and Wednesday and just under $6.93 per bushel on Thursday.
Gasoline and diesel fuel The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.23 per gallon May 11, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, up 16 cents from the previous week. Prices are up 9 percent from an average of $2.05 per gallon a month ago and off 40 percent from an average of $3.71 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded averaged $2.36 per gallon while premium unleaded stood at $2.45 per gallon. The nationwide average price for diesel fuel stood at $2.27 per gallon May 11, up 2 cents from last week. Diesel prices are off 53 percent from an average of $4.33 per gallon this time last year. Natural gas spot prices rose this week at almost every market location, according to the Energy Information Administration, with increases generally ranging between 10 and 30 cents per million Btu (MMBtu).
The price at the Henry Hub spot location rose to $3.67 per MMBtu during the report week, increasing by 7 percent from $3.43 the previous week.

Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc opened at $33.54 on May 11, up slightly compared with last Monday's open of $33.48. YUM traded at a 52-week high of $41.59 in May 2008 and a 52-week low of $21.50 in November 2008.
Domino's opened at $9.01, off 5 percent compared with last week's open of $9.45. Over the past 52 weeks, DPZ has traded as high as $14.20 in May 2008 and as low as $2.61 in November 2008.
Papa John's stock opened at $27.97, up 6 percent compared with last Monday's open of $26.50. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $30.68 in September 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.78 in November 2008.
Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, opened at $30.60, off slightly compared with last Monday's open of $31.21. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $39.59 in May 2008 and a 52-week low of $12.96 in November 2008.
California Pizza Kitchen stock opened at $14.80 on May 11, off 4 percent compared with last week's open of $15.42. Over the past 52 weeks, CPKI has traded as high as $17.44 in mid-April and as low as $5.24 in November 2008.
Pizza Inn opened at $1.44, up 15 percent compared with last Monday's open of $1.25. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.75 in October 2008 and a 52-week low of 98 cents in April 2009.
