Block cheese prices rose just slightly last week on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, averaging just under $1.75 per pound, up 1 cent from the week of Sept. 14.
Cheese prices are up 26 percent overall compared with last year, when they averaged $1.39 per pound.
Even though closing prices did abate, wheat has been on a steady upward climb since a Russian ban on grain exports. Prices for wheat on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange closed at $7.63, a 10-cent decrease from the previous Friday.
Wheat prices closed at $7.67 on Monday, just under $7.58 on Tuesday, $7.64 per bushel Wednesday, and $7.44 per bushel Thursday.
Gasoline and diesel fuel
The nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.69 per gallon September 27, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, down 4 cents from the previous week’s average of 2.73. Prices are relatively flat from $2.68 per gallon a month ago and up 8 percent from an average of $2.50 per gallon this time last year. Mid-range unleaded currently averages $2.86 per gallon while premium unleaded as of September 27 stood at just under $2.97 per gallon.
The nationwide average for diesel fuel stood at $2.97 per gallon September 27, relatively flat from the previous week. Diesel prices are up 12 percent from an average of $2.65 per gallon this time last year.
Since September 15, natural gas spot prices fell at most markets across the lower 48 States, with declines of less than 10 cents per million Btu (MMBtu), according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. However, selected markets in the Rocky Mountains and at the Florida citygate posted considerably larger declines, falling by as much as $0.51 per MMBtu. The Henry Hub natural gas spot price fell $0.04 per MMBtu since last Wednesday, averaging $4.02 per MMBtu in trading yesterday, September 22.
Pizza company stocks
Shares in Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed at $46.50 on September 24, up 75 cents compared with the previous week's close of $45.75. Yum! traded at a 52-week high of $46.91 in September 2010 and a 52-week low of $32.49 in October 2009.
Domino's closed at $13.35, down 62 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $13.97. DPZ traded as high as $16.32 in April 2010 and as low as $7.09 in September 2009.
Papa John's stock closed at $26.26, up 36 cents compared with the previous Friday's close of $25.90. PZZA traded at a 52-week high of $28.84 in May 2010 and a 52-week low of $21.44 in December 2009.
Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed at $35.68, up 13 cents compared with the previous week's close of $34.55. CEC traded at a 52-week high of $41.79 in April 2010 and a 52-week low of $24.69 in October 2009.
California Pizza Kitchen closed at $17.42 on September 24, up $1.05 from the previous week's close of $16.37. CPKI traded as high as $22.92 in April 2010 and as low as $12.29 in December 2009.
Pizza Inn closed at $1.88 on September 24, down 9 cents from the previous week's close of $1.79. PZZI traded at a 52-week high of $2.20 in April 2010 and a 52-week low of $1.50 in December 2009.
