While natural gas prices jumped "substantially" last week, fuel fell 4 cents and wheat continued its downward spiral, hitting its lowest average price in years.
Cheese prices averaged $1.89 last week on the Chicago Mercantile, matching its average price from the week prior. Cheese prices averaged $1.75 two months ago.
Prices closed at $1.87 Monday, $1.88 Tuesday, $1.89 Wednesday, $1.91 Thursday and $1.92 on Friday.
Wheat prices continued to fall last week on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange and are at their lowest level in years, averaging $6.55, down nearly 20 cents from $6.73 the week prior.
Wheat was more than $7.50 two months ago.
Prices closed at $6.68 Monday, $6.58 Tuesday and Wednesday, $6.52 Thursday and $6.42 on Friday.
Gasoline and diesel fuel
The nationwide average price for regular unleaded fuel today is $3.22, down 4 cents from $3.26 the week prior. According to the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, prices a month ago were $3.20.
Last year at this time, consumers were paying $3.25 at the pump.
Today's mid-range unleaded is $3.40,down from $3.44 the week prior. Premium gas is $3.58, from $3.61 last week.
Diesel fuel prices are averaging $3.84, down a penny from $3.85 the week prior. The price of diesel fuel was $3.81 a month ago and $3.93 last year.
Natural gas spot prices increased substantially at most trading locations in the country. The Henry Hub spot price rose from $3.88/MMBtu Dec. 4, to $4.24/MMBtu Dec. 11.
At the New York Mercantile Exchange, the January 2014 contract rose from $3.960/MMBtu Dec. 4 to $4.337/MMBtu Dec. 11.
Pizza company stocks
Shares of Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed out last week at $71.81, down from $74.39 the week prior. The company hit a new 52-week high last month, at $78.68. Its 52-week low was in early February, at $59.68.
Domino's finished last week at $69.19, down slightly from $69.31 the week prior. DPZ hit a new 52-week high earlier in the week, at $71.17. Its 52-week low was $42.13 a year ago.
Papa John's shares finished last week at $86.16, up from $85.41 the week prior. PZZA hit a new 52-week high earlier in the week at $88.33. Its 52-week low was $49.88 a year ago.
CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed out last week at $43.57, down from $44.65 the week prior. The company's 52-week-high was last month at $48.30. Its annual low was a year ago at $28.95.
Pizza Inn Holdings closed out last week at $8.24, down from $8.35 the week prior. The company's 52-week-high was $9.18 in May. It traded as low as $3.03 a year ago.
