Wheat prices at lowest level in years

Cheese prices continued to rise, averaging more than a dime higher than two months ago. Wheat, however, is moving in the opposite direction, falling to its lowest levels since the first part of 2010.

Cheese

Cheese prices continued to climb on the Chicago Mercantile, averaging $1.89 last week, from $1.86 the week prior. Cheese prices averaged $1.75 two months ago.

Prices closed at $1.88 Monday, $1.92 Tuesday, $1.94 Wednesday, and $1.87 Thursday and Friday.

Wheat

Wheat prices continued to fall last week on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange and are at their lowest level in years, averaging $6.73. The week prior, wheat averaged $6.92.

Wheat was more than $7.50 two months ago.

Prices closed at $6.81 Monday, $6.84 Tuesday, $6.72 Wednesday, and $6.66 on Thursday and Friday.

Gasoline and diesel fuel

The nationwide average price for regular unleaded fuel today is $3.26, even from $3.26 last week. According to the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, prices a month ago were $3.19.

Last year at this time, consumers were paying $3.34 at the pump.

Today's mid-range unleaded is $3.44, up a penny from $3.43 the week prior. Premium gas is $3.61, from $3.61 last week.

Diesel fuel prices are averaging $3.85, from $3.84 the week prior. The price of diesel fuel was $3.82 a month ago and $3.98 last year.

Natural gas

Natural gas spot prices increased slightly at most trading locations in the country. The Henry Hub spot price rose from $3.79/MMBtu Nov. 27, to $3.88/MMBtu Dec. 4.

At the New York Mercantile Exchange, the January 2014 contract rose from $3.895/MMBtu Nov. 27 to $3.960/MMBtu Dec. 4.

Pizza company stocks

Shares of Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc. closed out last week at $74.39, down more than $3 from $77.59 the week prior. The company hit a new 52-week high last month, at $78.68. Its 52-week low was in early February, at $59.68.

Domino's finished last week at $69.31, even from the week prior. DPZ hit a new 52-week high last month, at $70.10. Its 52-week low was $41.47 a year ago.

Papa John's shares finished last week at $85.41, also even from the week prior. PZZA hit a new 52-week high two weeks ago at $86.77. Its 52-week low was $49.88 a year ago.

CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, closed out last week at $44.65, down from $47.75 the week prior. The company's 52-week high was two weeks ago at $48.30. Its low was a year ago at $28.95.

Pizza Inn Holdings closed out last week at $8.35, down from $8.52 the week prior. The company's 52-week high was $9.18 in May. It traded as low as $3.03 a year ago.
